About My Electric Guitar Plans

Several years ago, my son asked me if I would buy him an electric guitar for Christmas. But after suffering sticker shock when he pointed out the model he wanted, I told him, "Sorry son, you'll have to find a more affordable instrument." Out of the blue he responded with, "Can you build me one?"

After two months and hours of research, designing, carving, sanding and finishing, my son finally had his own, custom designed electric guitar. But, as you might expect, the story didn't end there. I had become hooked on building electric guitars. And, like many others before me, I was on a quest to build the perfect guitar. At the same time, I developed a serious addiction to all of the exotic guitar woods and finishes available. Now, as you might imagine, the cost of making your own guitar can be rather high. Therefore, in order to offset my expenses, I have decided to make the dozens of plans I have created available for download at a VERY reasonable $6 US each.

I hope you'll find these electric guitar plans helpful and worthy of the small price. Please come back and visit often as I plan to add new designs on a regular basis.

Illustrator vs CAD

All of the plans for sale here at eGuitar Plans were created in Adobe Illustrator CS4. The reason I prefer to use Illustrator is because of its ease of use and the creative flexibility allowed. Plus, Illustrator's accuracy is well within the requirements of guitar design. Especially where fret placement is concerned.

I've used CAD programs before and can appreciate their usefulness in product engineering. But the graphic designer in me finds their functionality to be a little bit of overkill. Maybe if I'm asked to design a guitar for a future space shuttle mission, I'll reconsider.
